Mum pleads for fugitive
Singaporean to return home

JOHOR BARU: A 35-year-old Singaporean fled his country and has gone
into hiding in Malaysia for the past six months because he was
caught stealing a can of beer.
Salesman Tan Wee Hong was charged in a Singapore court with theft
in May and was released on a RM4,000 bail.
Under Singapore criminal law, the charge carries a penalty of up to
three years' jail or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
However, Tan believed he would be whipped if found guilty.
He fled to Kuala Lumpur.
His mother, Lam Khim Lian, 59, is pleading for him to
return.
